At first, as I was thinking about the question, “Who influences you,” I was struggling to find the answer. I started to think about some of the people I know that have taught me a lot of things and guided me throughout my walk with God. Once I started to really think about this question, I realized it was not really that hard. The person who influences me most in my life is my dad. Once I answered that question, I realized that I had already gotten through the hardest question because the next one was easy: “Why does this person influence you?” The three characteristics that come to mind are strength, perseverance and integrity. The main characteristic that inspires me about my dad is his strength. Most people, when they hear the word “strength,” think of physical power. Although my dad is strong physically, I am mostly inspired by his spiritual strength. I have never seen him give up on the Lord. He has taught me to never doubt God because when things get hard God always has something in store for you at the end of it. This year I have seen my dad grow more spiritually than I have seen him grow in my entire life. This has shown me that you can always make room to grow; no matter how strong your faith in God is, it can always get stronger. The devil might have tried taking away my dads physical strength, but my dad is actually stronger than ever before, and that is where the devil failed; because, by decreasing my dads physical strength, his spiritual strength has increased even more. The second characteristic of my dad that I strive to have is his perseverance. The definition of perseverance is “steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success.” This describes my dad perfectly. He never quits. When my dad thinks of something, it is impossible to get it out of his mind. If my dad has a vision, he goes for it; and that is something that I wish I had. He is committed to whatever he does, and he is committed to our family. If we need my dad to be somewhere or to help us with something, he is always there and he does it. The final characteristic my dad has is his integrity. He does not lie to our family, and he is faithful to do what he says he will do. His integrity corresponds with his perseverance because when he says he is going to do something he does it, and he does it as fast as he can. I want his integrity because I want to be known as an honest man. I don’t want to say one thing and do the other. Overall, my dad is a great man who I look up to. He has instructed me throughout many parts of my life. He might make some mistakes, but he will never let his mistakes define him. Instead, I see him grow from his mistakes and constantly strive to be the best he can be. My dad has truly taught me what it is like to be a loving and strong man of God.
